King's Corners
Sunday school to start up again

All Saints' Church

Submitted by

Claire Alexander

On Sept. 9, do join the friendly congregation at All Saints' on Keele Street in King City as the fall schedule resumes, with the services of Holy Eucharist at 8 a.m. in the chapel, and the new time of 10:30 a.m. in the church. Look over possible study groups for the small group of your choice.

Bring your children with you. Sunday school resumes under the leadership of Celia Abraham, and all Sunday school children, young people and their families are invited to stay after church for a welcome-back barbecue lunch. Check out the dates for exciting monthly youth group activities for Grades 8 to 12 and 1 to 7 separate Friday nights.

Save Sept. 30 for a big day. After the 10:30 a.m. service, stay for the first of our famous potluck lunches before the annual Vestry meeting. Then, at 7:30 p.m., enjoy the refurbished pipe organ in a very special musical evening led by Michael Leach, with a Choral Evensong and organ dedication.

All Saints' grieves with the community in the August deaths and loss experienced by two wellknown families.

Joan Goulding, with more than 50 years in Girl Guiding, lost her husband Harry Aug. 13, the father of Susan and Michael. Harry was the bell-ringer in All Saints' 150-year-old chapel when he first came from England in 1949, and he began work on the Eaton Hall estate (property now shared by Seneca College) to build up the prize Holstein herd for Lady Flora McCrae Eaton and family, living in their historic Norman chateau.

Rector's Warden Fiona Cowles, active in King Township Recreation Department and the Oak Ridges Trail Association, lost her husband Michael P. Cowles, Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Health, at York University, Aug. 21, father of Richard and Maggie. In true Christian and rural style, the congregation of All Saints' has rallied around to support these families.

All Saints' Anglican Church at 12935 Keele St. in King City, is a few doors south of King Road, with Sunday services Labour Day weekend still at 8 and 10 a.m. in the chapel. If you know of a need or would like prayer, please contact the church office, or Rev. Nicola Skinner, at (905) 833-5432, or (EOL). Our new Web site is at www.allsaintskingcity.com

A welcome to all Sunday mornings, adults and children, to King City United Church, a caring, vibrant, Christian church.

Sunday morning worship services and Sunday school starts at 10 a.m., where all children are invited to meet their own ages, and to be part of the worship service and then to Sunday school. At 11 a.m., the services are followed with refreshments and fellowship. And if you are new to the community, you are more than welcome to come and meet your new neighbours and it's a good time to meet those of the community. The children's Sunday school is to commence, after a lovely summer for them, Sept. 9.

King City United Church is one block south of the King Road and one block east of Keele Street, at 50 Elizabeth Grove.

Next week's reflection is to be Touched/Shaped by God's Creative Urge, based on Proverbs 8:22-31. The reflection follow-up, is to take a break and resume again Sept. 16.

Second quarter receipts are available for pick-up from the table in the Narthex.

For further information on church activities, please call (905) 833-5181, or visit the Web site at www.kcuc.ca
