Activities being planned to get things ready for Communities in Bloom Communities in Bloom judges will be in King Aug. 7 and 8, and there will be numerous efforts in the community ahead of time to help spruce things up for them. The Dufferin Marsh Committee members plan to be hard at work this Saturday (Aug. 4). They will be starting with a clean-up of the marsh, but organizers report that shouldn't take too long because not much garbage has accumulated since the last clean-up in the spring. They will spread their efforts out to Main Street to make sure the neighbourhood looks presentable. The group will gather at 9:30 a.m. at the bulletin board on Dr. Kay Drive. Bags and gloves will be provided, and cold drinks and coffee will be available too. The time spent on this activity can be credited towards high-school volunteer hours. Volunteers will be busy this coming Simcoe Day Monday (Aug. 6) in King City. Former councillor Steve Pellegrini, chair of the King Communities in Bloom Committee, said they will be cutting weeds and cleaning up the area, starting at the King Road and Keele Street intersection at 1 p.m. There's going to be lots of activity around Nobleton over the coming days. Local resident and long-time Communities in Bloom booster Lynda Rogers said volunteers will be getting together this morning (Wednesday) Friday and Monday from 9 until 11 a.m. to spruce things up. "It's just mostly tidying up and pulling weeds and generally making things look spiffy," she said. She added volunteers will likely be gathering at the gazebo outside the Nobleton library. |
