York re-names portion of Yonge Street

In an effort to eliminate confusion for emergency services, York Regional council recently approved a motion to rename sections of Yonge Street in East Gwillimbury to differentiate between adjoining sections of roadway with the same name.

Through an agreement reached with East Gwillimbury, the following changes have been made: Yonge Street from Morningside Road to the York/Simcoe boundary will become Highway 11; Holland Landing Road from Yonge Street/Highway 11 to Yonge Street/Holland Landing Road will become Yonge Street; and Yonge Street from Holland Landing Road to Bradford Street will be confirmed as Yonge Street.

Affected residents have been advised of the change, and new signage with the revised street names will be installed.
