All Saints' Anglican Church

Invite your neighbours to participate in events at All Saints' Anglican Church, a caring, friendly church.

This is the summer of new inspiration, with lay members participating in the worship. This Sunday (July 29), join in a service of Holy Eucharist at 8 or 10 a.m., and stay to chat at 11 a.m. with new friends.

All Saints' inside redecoration is proceeding well, in brilliant colours chosen by a wonderful designer, to freshen us up for our 150th anniversary celebration Nov. 4. We really appreciate our painting volunteers, and offer community service hours to high school volunteers who wish to help out. Call the office for details.

In remembering 150 years, let's imagine no King City GO Station, but, instead, a former Isaac Dennis Hotel, built on the north side of Station Road. In 1855, a small group began meeting for services in the upper room, led by Rev. James Beaven, who rode his horse over muddy roads from Oak Ridges. Dennis also built Hogan's Inn at King Road about 1855, run by his daughter and son-inlaw John Hogan.

John Whalley, Sr., and William Rattray researched all the history 25 years ago. James Pulford may have donated the land on which the original All Saints' stood, now remaining as the smaller chapel on the south side of the church. Christopher Stokes, who founded the hamlet of King Creek, helped cut pine timber to complete that first building in 1857.

Though today the Chapel seats 90 people, at the time they built it to accommodate 120. More remarkably, the membership rolls then counted 13 families out of only 150 people in the whole community.

Come and see it Sunday for yourself!

The monthly Saturday morning Food Bank, open the last Saturday of each month from 9 until 11 a.m., will be available July 28. Enter the church foyer (narthex) by the side doors near the front of the church, on the parking lot level.

All Saints' Anglican Church is at 12935 Keele St. in King City, a few doors south of King Road. We celebrate the Eucharist at 8 and 10 a.m. in the Chapel. The office is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday in the summer.

If you know of a need or would like prayer, please contact the church office, or Rev. Nicola Skinner, at (905) 833-5432, or (EOL). Still in progress, our new Web site is at www.allsaintskingcity. com
