Editorial We can envision some of you reading the headline of this piece, muttering words like, "Yeah, tell me something I don't already know." Our purpose right now is more to remind, as opposed to inform, and maybe cause a few hats to be tipped in the direction of those who have been working hard to make sure how much beauty around here is promoted and appreciated. And we're not just referring to natural beauty, although it's got to be obvious to all that someone "up there" was pretty generous when it came to putting raw materials in this area. Why else would there be so many local efforts to preserve what's here. And despite what might sometimes be said in the heat of political differences, preserving that beauty is one of the most universal concepts in King. But there are other types of beauty too, and many of them have been evident over the last couple of weeks. There was the Kingfest Music Festival late last month, at which many people gathered to have a good time and be entertained. If one is going to think of something beautiful, then that must surely qualify. Then we have the creations of individual residents. King has more than its share of "green thumbs," and the results were on display recently in two garden tours. There were plenty of gardeners proudly showing off what they had put together, and even more patrons, showing appropriate appreciation. And we have just completed the second Arts Festival King, with more examples of the great creativity that resides nearby. There were were artists and crafters showing what they have accomplished, and many of them took the time to share their knowledge and skills at various workshops. There was the culinary creativity on display at last Sunday's Soiree at Seneca College, as well a couple of opportunities to learn more about the local history. And on top of it all, there was music; lots of it, from the variety that was offered at the Soiree to the appealing jazz offered over the weekend at King Swings. And for another positive note, we expect there will be a couple of more of these signs in the weeks to come. Organizers are getting ready for the local presentation in the Communities in Bloom competition. That's become an annual opportunity for all in King to help put a collective best foot forward. Good things are coming. |
