By Angie Maccarone (905) 859-5174

A farewell at St. Paul's

Rev. Van Dusen (Pastor Barry) and his family will be leaving St. Paul's Nobleton to shepherd another congregation in Sarnia.

July 29 will be the last Sunday that Rev. Van Dusen will preach at St. Paul's. Join us for worship this Sunday (July 22) and July 29 at 9:45 a.m.

Nursery care (for children up to five years of age) is provided during the service and Sunday school (for adults only) follows at 11 a.m.

For more information about any of our activities, please contact the church office at (905) 859-0843.

Horticulture

"And that lucky old sun has nothing to do but roll around heaven all day."

Heliotrope is a plant that is quite happy with this situation. Although most people associate the name with a rich shade of purple (the actual colour of the flower), heliotrope is Greek for sun follower. This underused plant (an annual in our area) deserves a place in our gardens not only for it's lovely shade of purple and its green crinkled foliage, but also for it beautiful perfume, which is most noticeable early mornings and evenings. It is planted in the scented garden in the monastery garden on the grounds of St. Alban's in Nobleton and on each side of the entrance stairs to the church.

Heliotrope, a reasonably fast growing member of the large borage family, grows about 18 inches high and bushes out to 12 inches. It grows well in average soil to which a little composted cattle manure (not sheep) has been added. Don't make the soil too rich as the fragrance may be fainter.

Good healthy plants are still available at local garden centres, including Primrose Garden Centre in Nobleton.

Movies on the Lawn

If you haven't been there yet, please try to attend next Wednesday's showing of Night at the Museum, courtesy of Movies on the Lawn.

The movies are on a 34- foot screen with professional projection and sound at the Nobleton Arena Sports Park. Gates open at 8 p.m. and movies to start at approximately 9 p.m. (when it gets dark).

The remaining dates are July 25; Aug. 8 and 22; and Sept. 5 and 19 (two rain dates have been scheduled for Sept. 12 and 29).

You can go to the Web site at www.starlightmoves. ca to get the full impact of what is being held. Here you will find trailers of the films, quizzes, games and other fun stuff. One can also order their season or individual tickets via secure online credit card from the Web site.
