John and Helen Sheardown celebrate 50 years
By Bill Rea

It was a time for celebration Sunday, and the event was the 50th wedding anniversary of Pottageville area residents John and Helen Sheardown.

Family and friends gathered for the party at the Kettleby - Pottageville Lions Community Hall.

The couple was wed July 13, 1957 in the United Church manse in Kettleby.

They didn't recall anything special about the weather that day. "Sunny with cloudy intervals" Mrs. Sheardown said.

"It's another day. You look forward to it," her husband added. "You look forward to this day too."

Mr. Sheardown has lived and farmed all his life just south of the hamlet. His wife was born in Fergus. She moved to Nobleton, and the couple were drawn together through their interests in sports. They were introduced, started to date and things went from there.

The couple had three children, Larry, Brian and Teresa, and currently have five grandchildren.

"Give a little and take a little," is what Mrs. Sheardown said is the secret for making a successful 50- year marriage.

"You're not going to agree all the time, but we've found we're very compatible," her husband added.
