More concern about aquifers Regarding John Whalley's letter: Our water could run dry (June 27 edition of the Sentinel), I was never in favour of the "big pipe" for one reason only: It will deplete the moraine aquifers. Now, I hear that York Region will eventually be pumping water back from Lake Ontario into the surrounding communities? If so, I hope it happens very soon and I hope the related communities, one of which would be King City, enjoy getting Lake Ontario water in their taps. Nevertheless it will much help preserving water on the Oak Ridges Moraine. As an adjunct to this water matter, back in April 2005, York Region contracted out the drilling of a number of test wells in the area, one of which was done at the entrance to the Humber Trails Reforestation Area off Mill Road in King Township. At the time that it was done, local residents in the area were told they would receive a letter on the findings and future possible affect of local wells in the immediate area from York Region. Well it never came. Secondly, the area was left in an awful mess and, indeed, it was cleaned up somewhat. However, today, we have a wonderful monument of this project and eyesore left at the entrance to Humber Trails; continual seeping water into a ditch, a great breeding ground for mosquitoes. Some months ago, I referred this matter to York Region, Toronto Region Conservation Authority and King Township, with no response whatsoever from any of them. Dave Platt,
