School head praises local fire brigade A small fire May 30 at The Country Day School didn't cause much damage, but it drew praise for the local firefighters. A letter from school Headmaster Paul Duckett to Fire Chief Bryan Burbidge was read aloud by Mayor Margaret Black at the start of the June 11 King council meeting. Brenda Castle, communications director for the school, said the smoldering fire was reported by a custodian who noticed smoke around a construction site on the Dufferin Street property. "It was not evident at first where the source of the fire was, but your crews were persistent and eventually found what they were looking for," Duckett wrote in his letter. "They dealt with the fire efficiently and effectively, and averted what was potentially a very serious matter for the school." "The firemen conducted themselves very professionally and were a credit to you and the Township of King," he added. |
