Driver charged in fatality on 400

Aurora OPP is investigating a singlevehicle fatal collision that occurred in the southbound lanes of Highway 400, between Lloydtown - Aurora Road and King Road early Friday morning.

Police report a vehicle apparently left the roadway, became airborne and hit a clump of trees on the right shoulder at approximately 2:15 a.m.

A passenger, Darren McMullin, 25, of Orangeville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Orangeville, has been charged with impaired driving causing death, driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system, carrying a class G-2 licence with a blood alcohol content of more than zero and using plates not authorized for the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP Traffic Support Unit. Police are asking an one who may of witnessed the collision to contact Constable L. Basso at (905) 841-5777.

Motorists are reminded not to drink and drive, to buckle up and to slow down.
