Trillus cleans up again at Spring Classic
By Bill Rea

Dietmar Trillus prepares to let another arrow go.
Nobleton's Dietmar Trillus can seemingly do just about everything on an archery range, except miss.

He competed over the weekend at the Ontario Spring Classic in Scarborough, taking part in a FITA (International Archery Federation) round Saturday in which he finished first. The round required him to shoot 144 arrows at varying distances (30, 50, 70 and 90 metres), and he scored 1,392 out of a possible 1,440 points.

That put him at the top of the field in the elimination round Sunday, in which he had to shoot 12 arrows at 70 metres in one-onone competition. He cruised by four opponents, and ended up facing a protege of his, Andrew Fagan of Ajax, in the final. The 49-year-old master was on top of his game against his 20-year-old opponent, as Trillus prevailed with a score of 117 out of a possible 120, to 113 for Fagan.

Trillus said he's looking forward to the weekend of June 23 and 24, when he's scheduled to compete in the Ontario Field Championships at York County Bowmen in Newmarket.

Andrew Fagan ongratulated Dietmar Trillus at the end of their match Sunday.
"That is fun," Trillus declared, observing it requires meandering through a field to find the targets, rather than shooting at stationary ones. "There's a huge amount of variety."

He has also qualified to represent Canada at the 44th Outdoor Target World Championships in July in Leipzig, Germany. He'll be among 12 Canadians joining some 600 archers from around the world, and he'll be competing in his specialty, which is the men's compound class (a compound bow is equipped with wheels that act as pulleys).

Trillus also expressed appreciation to his sponsors; Matthews, Carbon Express, Copper John, Tru Ball and Lancaster Archery.
