Police encouraging participation in community survey

As part of the planning process for the 2008 to 2010 Business Plan, York Regional Police is reaching out to the residents of the region for their feedback on policing and crime in the community.

A short community survey has been sent to 10,000 randomly selected households across the region and residents are being asked to complete the survey to help police better serve all residents.

It's seen as an opportunity for citizens to give their views on such issues as community satisfaction with police, police performance, policing priorities, crime concerns, perception of crime, diversity, community policing and crime prevention.

They are encouraging residents who have been selected to complete and return the questionnaire by June 25. Those selected should receive the survey in the next few days and will have the option of completing the questionnaire in English, Italian, Chinese, Russian, Farsi or French upon request.

Police are also making a shorter version of the survey available on their Web site at www.yrp.ca

York Regional Police is committed to providing the best policing services to citizens through ongoing community consultation and feedback.

"As we continue to face the challenges of policing one of the most diverse and fastest-growing regions in Canada, the feedback we receive from our citizens is critical to our continued success, " said Chief Armand La Barge. "I encourage all citizens to fill out the survey and provide information to help us keep York Region one of the safest communities in Canada."

Anyone with questions regarding this survey or seeking more information can contact police Planning and Research Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7981 or 7647.
