Event winners at the Fair

Maple the mechanical cow gave folks the chance to practise their milking skills. Matthew Murphy, 5, and his sister Giselle, 8, of Schomberg, took advantage of the opportunity.
The following are results and lists of local winners in various events at the 2007 Schomberg Agricultural Fair.

Homecraft section

There were many interesting crafts to be seen in the arena, and some are going to be used to help others. Grainni Malcolm said local women combined to create a collection of knitted goods. Mitts and slippers will be going to the King Township Food Bank, while the baby goods will be going to Legacy of Love, which operates out of St. Patrick Church, for shipment to Africa.
Linda McWilliam arrived in Canada with her husband and two small children before Christmas. She heard about Schomberg Fair through the local newspapers and spent the winter working on her projects. It was a total family affair, her husband and friends placed in the demolition derby and she placed third, with her daughter in the parent-child look-alike contest. They had a marvelous time. They think Canada, particularly Schomberg is wonderful.

Schoolwork section

Junior school champ - Kaitlyn Kerek; Senior school champ - Johnny Kennedy; Horticulture trophy - Kaitlyn Kerek; Baking trophy - Morgan Middleton; Craft trophy - Rebecca Kennedy; Highest points school (Jack Orr Special) - Schomberg Public School.

Baby show

Some of the best lookers in the various classes of the baby show were Jayme Orr, Tottenham; Raif Pabst, Schomberg; Owen Pole, Schomberg; Jake Porter, Schomberg; Brooke Wappel, King City; Jalyn Jones, Keswick; Keaton Walsh, Schomberg; Anthony Lus, Schomberg; Evan Somerville, Schomberg; Isabella Sanders, Pottageville; and Jacob Novotny, Schomberg.

Farmers' Olympics

The first-place team was made up of Maurice Blanchard, Debbie Blanchard, David Blanchard and Aaron Metcalfe. The second-place team consisted of Mallory Groombridge, Brock Groombridge, Tanya Martin and Ian Slade. The best-dressed team had Nancy Andrew, Michelle Frost-Beard, Yogi Frost and Margaret Rudnitsky.

Horseshoe pitch

First - Dave Trimble and Brandon Trimble; second - Keri Cairns and Barb Cairns; and third - Derek Rankin and Mike Archibald.

Euchre

The top four players for the ladies were Dorothy Rutherford, Shirley Stonehouse, Peggy Ellison and Berle Fleming, with Mary Hammett winning the lucky draw.

At the men's tables, the top players were Annie Hill, Francis McCabe, Ken Hodgson and Jim Walker. The lucky draw was won by Blake Coulter.

Kids' Pedal Tractor Pull

In the under 45-pound class, the top puller was Lucas Tribe, followed by Lindsay Jellifo and Mackenzie Atkinson of New Lowell. In the 46 to 60- pound category, tops was Kurt Watson of Alliston, followed by Giselle Murphy and William Woodruff. The top puller in the 61 to 75- pound class was Johnny Kennedy of Tottenham, followed by Colleen Chan of Newmarket.
