Youngsters part with locks to help needy kids have hair

The people taking part in the program at Nobleton Public School were (not in order) Sue Panneton, Conrad Richter, Madison Martin, Nicole Odenwald, Shelby Prioriello, Mundana Nikseresht, Dennis Orr, Olivia Neu, Richard Harknett, Zoe Simmons, Marina Gisana, Jennifer Kerr, Amy Korzeneniowski, Hayley Cunneyworth, Emma Marejka, Riley Marchand, Rachel Price Junior Basco and Alicia Neu
They didn't quite give their all, but several students at the two elementary schools in Nobleton last Wednesday made significant contributions to help others.

They had large locks of their hair cut off to help under-privileged kids who need wigs. The shorn hair was donated to Angel Hair for Kids, a program that provides hair or wigs to youngsters from financially disadvantaged families who have lost their hair due to such causes as cancer radiation or chemotherapy treatment, burns, etc.

Several of the students at Nobleton Public School and St. Mary Catholic School had been growing their hair for a year, in anticipation in taking part in last week's event. As well, a few parents and teachers gave up some of their hair.

Those taking part in the hair-cutting event at St. Mary School were (front row) Alessia Termini, Rose Falzone, Dale Wright, Holly Cooney, Serene Falzone, Christina Di Passa, (middle row) Sydney Gaspere, Stephanie Christe, Sarah Jans, Valeria D'arazio, Palma D'Angelo, (back row) Sandra Celebre of Sandra's Hair Salon in Nobleton, Lynda Archibald of Angel Hair for Kids, Cassandra Butterworth of Sandra's and parent volunteer Leigh Ann Van Moorlehem.
Staff from Couples Hair Salon and Sandra's Hair Salon were at the schools to make sure the cutting was professionally done.
Richard Harknett got a little more than a light trim. He was inspired by a group of students who had their heads shaved for the cause at King City Secondary School last year, so he set out to raise $1,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society by giving up his hair. His father Jon, who was on hand for the event, said he's raised more than $1,500. Mary Creador of Couples Hair Salon in nobleton administered the trim.
