Dorado Stars conquer team championships

Head coach Brian Kelly along with his coaching staff Jennifer Noodle and Courtney Desjardins accompanied 30 top athletes from the Dorado Stars Swim Club to Sudbury, for Division II Team Championships.

In all, 18 teams from across Ontario came to compete at the three-day event. Although the competition was intense amongst the high calibre teams that attended, the Dorado Stars athletes were relentless and rose to the challenge. The Stars conquered first place by an incredibly merited one-point victory.

The swimmers came together as a group and exhibited tremendous group spirit and determination, hard work and an incredible desire to triumph to victory. The team now advances to Division I - congratulations to all who participated in an outstanding weekend. The following are the highlights from the three-day event.

In the girls 10 and under years of age category Bavindeep Basra placed 1st in the 100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke, 2nd in the 100m and 200m individual medley and 5th place in the 200m freestyle. Lauren Beals placed 2nd in the 100m butterfly and 6th in the 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley. Brittany Macfarlane placed 4th in the 50m butterfly and 5th in the 100m butterfly and Kynyn Doughty placed 10th in the 100m individual medley.

In the boys 10 and under years of age category Stefano Gardiman placed 1st in the 50m and 100m freestyle, 1st in the 50m and 100m backstroke and placed second in the 200m freestyle. Zachary Montesano placed 1st in the 50m and 100m butterfly, 2nd in the 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley and placed 3rd in the 200m freestyle. Aidan Zagar placed 2nd in the 100m breaststroke, 3rd in the 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke, 4th in the 100m freestyle and 6th in the 200m freestyle. Bjoern-Ole Schrader placed 9th in the 200m freestyle and 10th in the 50m and 100m backstroke.

In the girls 11 and 12 age group category Freya Lewis placed 6th in the 100m and 400m freestyle and 9th in the 200m freestyle and butterfly. Sarah Gandhi placed 6th in the 800m freestyle. Laura McGee placed 4th in the 200m breaststroke, 5th in the 400m freestyle and 6th in the 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke. Kathleen Horgan placed 8th in the 400m individual medley. Irene Depacina placed 6th in the 200m breaststroke, 7th in the 100m breaststroke and individual medley and 9th in the 200m individual medley.

In the boys 11 and 12 age group category Myles Zagar placed 2nd in the 800m freestyle, 3rd in the 400m individual medley, 5th in the 400m freestyle, 7th in the 200m freestyle and 9th in the 200m backstroke. Tyler Macfarlane placed 6th in the 200m butterfly and 9th in the 100m butterfly.

Girls 13 and 14 years of age Alana Colgan placed 1st in the 400m and 800m freestyle, 100m and 200m backstroke and 2nd in the 200m butterfly. Grace Wilkinson placed 2nd in the 100m and 200m freestyle, 3rd in the 400m freestyle, 4th place in the 800m freestyle and 6th in the 50m freestyle. Jennifer Heron placed 4th in the 200m freestyle, 5th in the 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke and 7th in the 50m freestyle. Hannah Cassidy placed 8th in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. Kristina Stojadinovic placed 1st in the 200m and 400m individual medley and 7th in the 100m and 200m butterfly.

In the girls 15 and 16 years of age Esther Haines placed 1st in the 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle, 1st in the 200m breaststroke and 400m individual medley. Paige Miller placed 1st in the 100m and 200m butterfly, 1st in the 200m individual medley, 2nd in the 100m backstroke and 4th in the 200m backstroke.

In the boys 15 and 16 years of age category Mark Bechtel placed 6th in the 50m freestyle, 7th in the 1500m freestyle and 8th in the 200m and 400m freestyle. Tyler Bredshneider placed 4th in the 100m, 200m, and 1500m freestyle and 6th in the 400m freestyle.

In the girls 10 and under 200m freestyle relays Kynyn Doughty, Bavindeep Basra, Lauren Beals and Brittany Macfarlane finished 2nd and 3rd in the 200m individual medley relay. The boys 10 and under Stefano Gardiman, Zachary Montesano, Aidan Zagar and Bjoern-Ole Schrader finished 1st overall in the 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley relays. The girls 11 and 12 Freya Lewis, Laura McGee, Irene Depacina and Sarah Gandhi finished 4th in the 200m freestyle and 200m individual medleys. The boys 11 and 12 category Myles Zagar, Mason Kennedy, Joshua De St. Croix, Tyler Macfarlane, Stefano Gardiman and Zachary Montesano finished 4th in the 200m individual medley and 5th in the 200m freestyle medley.

The 13- and 14-year-old girls finished 1st in the 200m freestyle and individual medley relays. Congratulations to Alana Colgan, Kristina Stojadinovic, Grace Wilkinson and Jennifer Heron. The 15- and 16-yearold girls placed 1st in the 200m freestyle relay and 2nd in the 200m individual medley relays. Congratulations to Esther Haines, Paige Miller, Jennifer Heron, Grace Wilkinson and Alana Colgan.

Good results were also achieved throughout the weekend by Leah Carriere, Jamie Fawcett, Kaitlyn Loder, Sienna McDougall and Joshua De St. Croix.
