Plenty of fun planned for the 157th Schomberg Agricultural Fair

The demolition derby should provide plenty of excitement Friday night.
This weekend all the old favourite events will be featured at the 157th Schomberg Agricultural Spring Fair.

From the crowd pleasing demolition derby Friday night, to the parade, heavy horse show, cattle, goats, sheep and rabbit show, tractor pull, farmers' Olympics and the homecraft display in the arena throughout Saturday and Sunday, there will be no shortage of fun things to see and do.

It might be difficult to take everything in - there are so many things to see and do. And the members have added a few new and exciting events we hope you won't miss.

Thursday and Saturday evening will feature a Showcase of the Bands and Saturday the winner of the very popular Schomberg Idol contest will be announced.

This year's theme, the Dairy Cow, will be highlighted throughout the grounds and in the arena. Be sure to check out the display of dairy breeds, and learn about the history of each breed and be sure to test yourself with some dairy trivia. Be sure to drop by the tent next to the cattle display where 4-H club members will educate you about dairy cows and dairy farming today and you'll even be able to purchase dairy-related products to take home.

Fair Ambassador contestants Jennifer Atkinson and Katie Savage tried out some of the Midway rides at last year's event.
Don't miss the cooking demonstrations Saturday and Sunday at 1:30 and 2:30, using various dairy products. Education abounds with Kim Empringham's talk on the Business of Farming at 2 p.m. Saturday, and see Gloria and Scott Paisley, winners of the 2003 Young Farmers Award, who will talk about life on their 550-acre dairy farm where they regularly milk 80 dairy cattle Sunday at 2.

As has become tradition in the Homecraft section, celebrities will be out at 2:30 for the Celebrity Cooking Show, featuring Mayor Margaret Black, King Township councillors, representatives of local organizations and finally the 2006 Schomberg Fair Ambassador Jennifer Atkinson. Come out and cheer these good sports on in this fun event.

For a full listing of events and times, see the event schedule in this week's Sentinel or visit the Web site at www.schombergfair.com
Tall Tex will be back at the Fair by popular demand.
