See you at Schomberg Fair this weekend

One of, if not the, biggest annual events in King Township goes this weekend.

The 157th edition of the Schomberg Agricultural Fair is all set to go, and if you have never attended this yearly event, you would be wise to set aside some time to check it out, and take the family with you.

Some might think an agricultural fair is somewhat out of date, but the fact is people attend Schomberg's every year, and they have a good time. And since when is having a good time oldfashion?

There promises to be lots on hand to delight fair goers.

Schomberg Fair always has a Midway, a pretty good one at that, filled with plenty of games, the possibility of prizes and rides; lots of rides.

Schomberg Fair always has food, lots of it. Granted, some of the items might not get the approval of the most health-conscious people, but the Fair does come to town only once a year, and the occasional indulgence never hurt anyone. And the food does taste good too.

Schomberg Fair has displays too. There will be crafts, samples of local students' work, art, creations, demonstrations and details about upcoming community events. Not only can people get an early start on planning their activities for the summer, they can get a really early start on their Christmas shopping (people have been known to do that at the Fair).

Schomberg Fair has entertainment, be it the excitement of the demolition derby Friday night, the wackiness and fun of the Farm Olympics Saturday night or the great performers who will be on stage throughout. And this year, one of the new wrinkles will be the finale of the first ever Schomberg Idol competition. As of now, there are still seven talented local youngsters in the running. By the time the sun sets Saturday, that field will be down to one.

Schomberg Fair has animals, in the petting farm, in the show rings, in the parade, and all over; horses, cows, sheep, goats, dogs, rabbits and more.

Schomberg Fair will have information too. There is a theme to the Fair every year, and this year it's the dairy industry. It will be a great way to learn about and develop an appreciation for the process that provides one of the basics of our diets. And there will be some of the people involved in the industry on hand too. As the saying goes, if you ate today, thank a farmer.

Schomberg Fair is unique, it is exciting and it is fun.
