Senior rookie teams kick off their season schedules The two senior rookie teams in the King Township Baseball Association (KTBA) opened their seasons Monday night with two very different scenarios playing out. TVS Developments, coached by David Long, ended up taking away a forfeit win from Master Cut from Aurora. Apparently the home team was unable to get the diamond equipment ready and the game was handed to King Township. The other team, Rona Cashway, with John Cristatnte at the controls, hosted Priestley Demolition from Aurora at the spacious Pottageville diamond and came away with an impressive 15-12 victory. Outstanding hitting displays were put on by Rachel Price, Sam Hoare, Cassidy Tomlinson, Kyle Venberg , Matthew Iannucci, Julien Cristante, Conner Harris, Andrew Smith and Alexander Topp all got hits in the game. Meanwhile, Glen Hulse Plumbing, the peewee 1 team, dominated their Aurora opponents Monday, to the tune of 19-0. Coach Dan Price, in a classic understatement, allowed as to how the Cobras' pitching was in fine form and the hitters relentless in jumping on their opponents early and not letting up. Daryl Copithorn stroked his first triple of the season and firstyear players Adrijko Bilak, Steven Gianfrancesco and Jack Stone also did very well at the plate. Defensively, Stone and Owen Dubar stood out for King while Jonathan Mele and Patrick price shared the pitching duties for the win. It is only a few short weeks until the eighth annual Diamond Dreams baseball camp gets under way. Beginning in the second week of July, Mike Mallory and Tom Ellison will be hosting two weeks of concentrated skills development for players aged 10 to 14, in week one, and players eight to 10 in week two. All coaches from mosquito up are encouraged to remind their players of this opportunity to improve their game. This coming Monday will see the KTBA actively taking part in both the Victoria Day celebrations in Nobleton and, a few days later, participating in the Schomberg Fair parade. The association will be selling sausages, hot dogs and drinks in its annual Victoria Day booth. If you have an opportunity, please come by schedules and support baseball for our young people. At 1 p.m., on the main Nobleton diamond, our bantam rep team will be hosting North Toronto in an exhibition game; a great opportunity to see some young men who will be major contributors to the King City Secondary School program in a year's time. Sponsor of the Week Our Sponsor of the Week is Harris + Harris LLB, the supporter for Jock MacLachlan's mosquito 3 team. We thank this sponsor very much. Player of the Week The KTBA Player of the Week is Jack Stone of Glen Hulse Plumbing. This rookie peewee player has demonstrated that, despite coming late to baseball, he is likely to be a very dependable component of his team. Congratulations Jack. |
