See The Corporation tonight at library Arts Society King, in conjunction with the King Township Public Library, the Dufferin Marsh Committee and Cold Creek Forest and Wildlife Area, will be sponsoring the next in their series of films and panel discussions related to the environment tonight (Wednesday). The film will be The Corporation and will be shown at Nobleton Library, starting at 7 p.m. There are plans to have a panel discussion after the showing. The Corporation is considered a timely, critical inquiry exploring the curious history, inner workings, controversial impacts and potential future of big corporations. The film charts the development of the corporation as a legal entity from its genesis to unprecedented legal protection stemming from creative interpretation of the United States Constitution, to the rise of the vast modern institutions entitled to some of the legal rights of a "person." The central theme of the film is an attempt to assess the "personality" of the corporate "person" by using diagnostic criteria, and it finds that the modern, profit-driven corporation is strikingly similar to a clinically diagnosed psychopath. |
