Have barbecued chicken after fair Chicken barbecue to go with Fair Once again, the Schomberg Spring Fair is rolling around at the end of the month. There are a lot of traditions that go with our historic fair, and one of those is the Presbyterian Church's annual barbecue chicken dinner the Saturday of the fair. The church is on Main Street, beside the Community Hall and adjacent to one of the gates to the fair. It is also on the mammoth parade route. So, while you are enjoying the parade Saturday morning, your senses will be delighted with the tantalizing aromas of the chicken being barbecued by the skilled cooks of the Presbyterian Church. The barbecue takes place from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. in front of the church. They will be selling complete chicken dinners (both quarter and half chickens) or just the chicken sold separately if you choose. Horticultural society to meet The Schomberg Horticultural Society will be holding a meeting May 22 at 8 p.m. at the Schomberg Community Hall. The speaker will be Gloria Broks and the subject will be inexpensive floral arrangements. New members are always welcome. For more information call Veronica at (905) 939-7241. Happy Times Euchre Club Submitted by Shirley Stonehouse Last Wednesday was our wind-up dinner for the Happy Times Club. The meal was supplied by the Richmond Hill UCW and what a great dinner it was. Thank you once again ladies for such a superb beef dinner with all the trimmings. Thanks also to the Schomberg Lions Club for donating the prize money. The following winners went home happy. First among the ladies was Elaine Ruddy, followed by Velma Walker, Irene Palmer and Blanche Crane. The lucky draw was won by Doreen Matson. Tops at the men's tables was Arnold Rodgers, followed by Dan Gould, Jake Steenhoek and Ken Hodgson, with Bernie Talwin winning the lucky draw. The 50/50 draw winners were Ken Hodgson and Murray Kaake.
We will be having one more week of play today (Wednesday), as we want to make up for a snow day. |
