Police and EMS staff get heads shaved to help cancer research
There was no shortage of people at Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket Saturday to take in the Cops for Cancer event, and no shortage of police and Emergency Medical Service staff willing to get their heads shaved to help raise money for cancer research. Ever willing to lead by example, Chief Armand La Barge put his hair on the line if people in the crowd could raise $500 on the spot. They did, but the chief drew the line when his moustache was threatened. Such was not the case for Deputy Chief Eric Jolliffe standing next to the chief. He was next in the chair for a substantial trim, and his moustache was history by the time it was done.
Chief La Barge was able to experience life on the other side, as he started the trim on Sergeant Allie Smith.
Karen Dodd of One Small Room in Barrie had the job of relieving the chief of his hair.
