Powells have been married 50 years

Marilyn and Rod Powell have been married 50 years.
Marilyn and Rod Powell have moved away from the area, but their contributions are well remembered.

They were in King City Saturday to celebrate with family and friends on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.

They were wed at St. John's Catholic Church in Weston April 27, 1957, so their celebration came the following day.

"Fifty years ago yesterday, it rained in the morning too," Mrs. Powell recalled.

Over the years, the Powells had two sons, Randy and Michael.

Mrs. Powell did office work and drove a school bus for a time. Her husband was a lineman and later an underground journeyman for Etobicoke Hydro, and when he wasn't busy with the power grid, he built a reputation in the Nobleton Scouting movement. The Powells now reside in Severn Bridge, but he's still an active Scout leader.

Mr. Powell said the secret for making a marriage last 50 years is simply, "Marry a good woman."

"You just hang in," his wife said.
