Time to clean up in your area Community clean-ups are going to be the order of the day in King Saturday. Several are planned throughout the Township.. Mel VanSickle of War Against Litter in King (WALK) has announced there will be a community clean-up at the car park at the interchange of Highways 9 and 400. This event is slated to start at 10 a.m. Participants are asked to wear suitable clothing, including proper footwear and gloves. Volunteers also plan to be out in Laskay Saturday, starting at 10 as well. They will be picking up debris along Weston Road, between King Road and King-Vaughan Town Line. Bags, vests, pylons and plastic gloves will be provided at Laskay Hall, and participants are asked to wear bright clothing, and sturdy gloves and footwear. A barbecue lunch will be provided at noon. Call (905) 833-0222 if you are going to attend so that organizers can plan the food. The King Township Parks, Recreation and Culture Department has announced other clean-ups are planned. Recreation Program Coordinator Laura Campbell said they are planned to start at 9 a.m. at Nobleton arena, at the King City Trails (near St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Keele Street), at the Dufferin Marsh on Dr. Kay Drive in Schomberg and at the pavilion at Pottageville Park. Campbell added these events are slated to go rain or shine. Alternate Regional fire co-ordinator appointed York Regional council recently confirmed the appointment of Vaughan Fire Chief Greg Senay as alternate Regional fire coordinator, under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act. The role of the Regional fire co-ordinator or alternates is to ensure resource support to the Regional Emergency Operations center during an emergency. The City of Vaughan has provided corporate approval for Senay to take on this task. |
