Season comes to successful end for Schomberg skaters

The following article was submitted by the Schomberg Skating Club.

The Schomberg Skating Club held its annual Club Fun Competition March 25.

Participants competed in groups according to their skill development over this past skating season.

Following the CanSkate skills competition, all skaters participated in a fun and exciting relay race, in which each skater was required to go the length of the ice rink and back, performing a skating technique appropriate for their skill level. The junior, intermediate and senior skaters also competed in their level events.

Guest skaters were invited to entertain the crowd. The opening exhibition skate was performed by April Shaw. Shaena Somerton performed her Fiesta Tango and Krystal Siebert performed Starlight. Garth Miller, a former skater with the club, performed with his dance partner Meaghan Jones. The closing number was a precision dance routine performed by all of the junior and senior skaters. The number was choreographed by two of the coaches, Amanda Maggitti and Corrina Carlson.

The show was followed by a medal presentation ceremony. Complete medal results are as follows:

Although the competition marks the end of another successful skating season, the club is looking forward to a couple of key events.

The Schomberg Skating Club will be holding its second annual Yuk Yuk's Comedy Night May 5. The doors will open at 8 p.m. The two-hour show begins at 9 p.m., followed by a light meal of assorted finger foods. This event is open to all, 19 years of age or older. In conjunction with this event, the club will be hosting a silent auction. Anyone interested in making a donation, in the form of a gift basket, gift certificates or merchandise is asked to let us know. The annual general meeting will be held May 8 at 7 p.m. at the Schomberg Public Library. At the meeting, we will review the events of the past season, take a look at what strategies worked for us and what areas need improvement. We will begin planning for our opportunity for you to bring your ideas to the table, have your questions answered and concerns addressed. Mark it on your calendar and we will see you there.
