Local churches have their various events in place for Easter week Rev. Nicola Skinner and All Saints' Anglican Church extend to you the blessings of the Easter season. Join us tomorrow (April 5) at 7:30 p.m. to remember the Last Supper and Jesus' instructions to his followers to love one another, observed on Maundy Thursday. Good Friday (April 6), join in on the ecumenical service at 10 a.m. at King City United Church on Elizabeth Grove, one block south of King Road. Or come at noon for All Saints' own Solemn Liturgy. The well-known Rev. Dr. Gerald Loweth will give the homily at the Saturday night Easter Vigil, after dark at 9 p.m. King City's short community Easter Sunrise Resurrection gathering takes place on the lawn outside our chapel April 8 at 7 a.m. A free continental fellowship breakfast follows with croissants, juice and coffee. Wear warm boots and clothing. We also have a quiet Eucharist Easter Sunday at 8 a.m., and our major celebration at 10.30 a.m. with full choir, brass, children's activities, and coffee hour. A beautiful choral evensong under Director of Music Michael Leach is planned for Mother's Day (May 13) at 7:30 p.m. The next four-week adult discussion series, led by Judith Bishop and Leah Springford, begins April 15, from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., between services. We will use a series of short video monologues to get us thinking about issues such as forgiveness, wealth, emotional baggage, noise and silence, and the environment. Guests are warmly welcomed to participate in our on-going search to know God better. Students needing to fulfil community hours may volunteer their available time from now until the rummage sale, to be held April 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please continue to drop off your contributions anytime during open hours. All Saints' is at 12935 Keele St. in King City, a few doors south of King Road. The Eucharist is celebrated at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sundays. Skinner, at (905) 833-5432, or e-mail to allsaints@eol.ca King City United Church King City United Church, a vibrant, caring Christian church, invites all to the Sunday morning worship service, led by Rev. Bob Biggar, along with Sunday school, both at 10 a.m., followed with fellowship and refreshments. King City United Church is one block south of King Road and one block east of Keele Street, at 50 Elizabeth Grove. There is to be a Good Friday Morning Service (April 6) at 10 a.m. at King City United Church. Members of All Saints' Anglican Church and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church are welcomed, as well as anyone who would like to join this special service. There is to be a Sunrise Service at All Saints' Easter Sunday at 7 a.m. All are welcome. If you could bring along a few hot cross buns for a fellowship snack that would be great. The Easter Sunday morning worship service at King City United is to be held at 10 a.m. All are welcome to join in the meaning of this happy and joyous morning. Our Easter Communion Celebration will, of course, take place during the morning service. The reflection for this service is to be, Getting Up On The Easter Side of Life, based on John 20:1-18. All are invited to gather in the parlour after worship to discuss this further. Food Bank Flash - Easter Sunday collection. Donations of crackers, canned tomatoes, side dishes, packages of rice or potatoes and canned stews would be appreciated. This is a one-day drive. When submitting Talent Money to the church, please indicate if the amount includes a repayment of seed money. Please consider helping the flower committee this coming Easter. Anyone wishing to contribute flowers, either in memory or other, should contact Betty Beaton at (905) 833-5002, Mildred Manson at (905) 833-5534 or Miriam Desselring at (905) 833- 6337. If you are not presently receiving the Observer and would like to, if you wish to renew your subscription or if you have a change of address, please call Virginia Wainman at (905) 884-2972. The yearly cost is $14, and payable by cheque to King City United Church marked "Observer." There is to be a family and community concert April 21 at 7:30 p.m., at the church. It will be presented by the Praise Band and Family and Sunday school choirs and feature Spirit.calm Gospel Praise Band. The cost is $10. Further information in next week's column. It is time to get ready for the third annual King City Amazing Race. The race is to take place June 2. Times and details to follow. At this time, there is a need for volunteer host homes so the route can be set out. There is also a need of prize donations. We are having a reflective Maundy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. This year, the Good Friday service will be held at King City United Church at 10 a.m. and the Easter Sunrise Service is at All Saints' Anglican Church at 7 a.m. Our Easter Sunday Worship Service is at 10:30 a.m. Come and celebrate with us Jesus' great victory - we can experience Easter every day! Contributions to The Easter Clothing and Food Drive are gratefully accepted - gently used spring and summer clothing will be sent to Evangel Hall, Toronto. The food donations will go to our local food bank. Tennis registration The King City Tennis Association is preparing for another great season with a variety of programs for adults and juniors. Annual registration will take place April 14 and 21 from 10 a.m. to noon at the clubhouse on Kingslynn Drive. We need volunteers to help prepare the courts, so bring your brooms, rakes and ladders both weekends. Anyone needing application forms can either pick them up at the King City library or by phoning Denise Whalley at (905) 833-2654. Seniors' euchre The winners among the ladies in the March 23 euchre evening at King City Seniors' Centre were Dorothy Cloutier (83 points), followed by Helen Fleury (79) and Joan Dowden (52). Tops at the men's tables was Bob Fleury (112 and 10 loan hands) followed by Cliff Kettlewell (87) and Joyce Glass (42). The draw winners were Diane Simmonds, Rena Gordon and Domenic Petrucci.
The next euchre session will be April 6, starting at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome. |
