Thanks for making idol showcase a success

The second Schomberg Idol Showcase, sponsored by the Schomberg Agricultural Society, was a resounding success with standing room only. Thanks to the 13 contestants who sang their hearts out, the parents who have so lovingly nurtured their children's talent, supported Schomberg Idol and who, with all they had to do, provided the home-baked treats.

There are many in the community who support the Schomberg Idol Showcases and we would like to start by thanking Fr. Suren Nathan and the ladies' auxiliary for welcoming more than 150 people to their beautiful St. Mary Magdalene's Church in Schomberg. The ambience and acoustics, with the sound system from Arcadia Academy of Music in Nobleton, could not have been better.

Kudos to the three adjudicators who volunteered their time for the March 3 event. Between them, they have years of musical experience, and gave the contestants excellent feedback. They are Schomberg's own Linda Baker, and Cathryn MacGregor and Tom Malone from the Celtic band Loose Change and Blarney".

Councillors Bill Cober and Jeff Laidlaw took time out from their busy schedules and family time to attend the performance and we thank them for that. Bill's daughter was dancing at the back of the church and Jeff took some nice photos.

Our local newspapers are what connects us to our community and we wish to thank the King Weekly and the King Sentinel for doing an exceptional job of covering this series of events and giving Schomberg Idol such overwhelming support.

Last but not least, we thank the community for coming out to cheer the contestants on and for participating in the voting. As many of you who attended will testify, the youth who are participating in these events have shown maturity, courage, poise and overwhelming talent.

We look forward to meeting even more of the community April 14 at the Schomberg United Church at 11 a.m. We promise to give you another wonderful performance. Visit the Web site at: www.schombergidol. com for the upcoming performance schedule and to get to know your Idol contestants.
