Hollywood meets hicksville in new Blackhorse comedy A Bad Year for Tomatoes, by John Patrick, is the latest Blackhorse Village Players' production, set to open March 21. Chaotic comedy ensues with a blend of humour that resembles the TV classic Green Acres meets Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Then add an Agatha Christie murder mystery. Fed up with the pressures and demands of her acting career, the famous Myra Marlowe leases a house in the tiny New England village of Beaver Haven to settle down and write her autobiography. Problems arise with her nosy, omnipresent neighbours, and in an attempt to shoo them away and gain some privacy, Myra invents a homicidal sister who is kept locked in an upstairs room. The talents of Kate Horzempa (from Barrie), Nadia Casagrande (Palgrave), Brian and Annie Neale (Tottenham), Mark Power (Tottenham), Diana Crabtree (Alliston) and Greg Cebelak (Alliston) fill the hilarious cast of characters. Performances begin March 21 and run through to April 7. The Blackhorse theatre is on the northwest corner of Mount Wolfe Road and Highway 9 in Caledon. For tickets, call the box office at (905) 880-5002. For more information, visit www.blackhorse.ca |
