Sorbara will bring down budget March 22

Ontario Finance Minister (and Vaughan - King - Aurora MPP) Greg Sorbara will be delivering the government's 2007 budget March 22.

"Our fourth budget will build on our plan to restore the province's financial health, while making investments in the areas that matter most to Ontarians," Sorbara commented. "As with previous budgets, our overall goal will be to strengthen Ontario's economic fundamentals."

The 2007 budget will be delivered in the Ontario legislature at approximately 4 p.m.

In 2004, in its first budget, the government of Premier Dalton McGuinty announced a comprehensive, four-year plan to transform health care and make major investments in education. A centerpiece of the 2005 budget was the historic $6.2-billion Reaching Higher initiative, the largest multi-year investment in postsecondary education and training in 40 years. The 2006 budget announced a $1.2-billion investment in Move Ontario to support public transit and provide funding for roads and bridges.

The government is proclaiming that all three of its budgets have focused on reducing the provincial deficit while meeting the needs of Ontarians.

"We're going to continue to manage the provinces finances prudently, particularly in this period of more moderate economic growth," Sorbara declared.
