Horticulture "Let us as stewards, good and true, treasure, protect and ever work to improve the beauty of our Earth and the glory of our skies." [Egomet] Your horticulture society is a leader in improving the environment by planting trees, shrubs and flower gardens throughout the Nobleton and King City area by encouraging members and friends to become active in these and other environmental activities, including litter clean-up and recycling. New members and volunteers will help to maintain and even expand such efforts. We all must be concerned about our environment. That concern must be now. Much damage has already been done; some irreversible. But like charity environmental action begins at home. Take a look at our village, streets and countryside. That inexcusable litter of fast food containers, pop cans, broken glass bottles, wrappers, flyers, newspapers and plastic bags can't be blamed on government neglect or some multi national company. We "ordinary people," especially young people, are to blame. We thoughtlessly, carelessly and sometimes even purposely do the littering. Many plazas, including Nobleton's, provide separate containers for recyclables and garbage. However, more often than not, if the litter isn't tossed on the pavement, recyclable material is dumped in with garbage or vice versa. In European towns and cities, such as Belfast, Paris and Rome, there is much less litter than here. Conscientious, every day citizens make the difference. Its crunch time. Let's smarten up and instill in ourselves and our kids the importance of stopping the litter. "Litter isn't welcome here" could be our motto.
