Host Red Wings take consolation round in atom tourney

There were two representatives of the Schomberg Red Wings in the recent Red and White atom local league tournament, and the Schomberg 2 club, sponsored by Concord Hydraulics, ended up with the consolation title.

Neither team was able to get a berth in the championship match. That honour was reserved for the Barrie Colts and TNT Flyers, and Barrie ended up with all the marbles after a 3-0 victory.

The Hydraulics folks faced the Flyers in their opening game, and they emerged on the wrong end of a 6-5 final score. But they got their act back together and stung their foes from Newmarket 9-1 in their second outing, setting up their appearance in the consolation match with the TNT Flames. Schomberg won that game 7-2.

The other Schomberg team, sponsored by Armstrong Petroleums, got off to a pretty good start, topping the Flames 3-1, but they drew Barrie as their next foe, and a 7-1 final score finished the tournament for them.
