Sue Sherban to seek PC nomination in Oak Ridges - Markham

Former Whitchurch- Stouffville mayor Sue Sherban has announced her candidacy for the Progressive Conservative nomination in Oak Ridges - Markham in the next provincial election.

Sherban said she has been urged to run by many supporters and PC party members.

Her husband, Peter, and family have called the community of Whitchurch- Stouffville home for 32 years. Sherban has served her community at the municipal level for the past nine years, first as councillor, then for the past three years as mayor.

She lost her re-election bid in November to Wayne Emmerson.

"I have been fortunate in the course of my political endeavours to have met and worked with so many of you and together we have accomplished much for our community and the Region of York," Sherban commented on making the announcement.

She added that throughout her career, she has shared the principles of the Progressive Conservative party: A respect for the rights of the individual; responsibility to community; and enhancement of society. She said it is now time to use her knowledge and experience to serve a larger community.

Having worked as a regional councillor in York for three years, she said she believes she's prepared to work once more with the residents of King, Markham, Richmond Hill, Whitchurch- Stouffville and York, this time at Queen's Park.

"As your representative in the provincial legislature, I promise to work tirelessly for all the residents of the new riding of Oak Ridges- Markham," she declared. "To do this, I am asking for your help, first to achieve the PC nomination, and then to be the successful candidate in the upcoming provincial election."

Sherban is also asking residents to contact her to share their comments, ideas and suggestions on how to improve the quality of life in Oak Ridges- Markham.
