The midget 1 Red Wings, sponsored by Rona Cashway, won all four of their matches to bring home the hardware. Coach Andy Courtney reported they opened the action against the Peterborough club, and doubled their foes 4-2. Jamie Calverley, Mark Rice, Taylor Unwin and Jeffrey Phillips provided the scoring punch in this outing, with assists being notched by Phillips, Calverley, Mark Serazin, Geoffrey Ruytenbeek, Neil Phillips and Clinton Tracey. The Wings' next test was against their hosts, and they handed the Beaverton crew a 3-0 blanking. Neil Phillips, Calverley and Unwin handled the scoring duties in this match, while Jeffrey Phillips and Rice each collected two assists and Neil Phillips earned a single. Their third match turned out to be their closest contest of the event, but Schomberg prevailed 2-1 over Clarington. Neil Phillips notched the first marker, assisted by Jeffrey Phillips, and Ruytenbeek collected the other goal, with help from Dillian Courts. That earned them a berth in the championship match against the squad from Listowel, and the local heroes cruised to a 5-1 victory. Unwin led the attack with a pair of goals, while singles were collected by Ruytenbeek, Neil Phillips and Patrick Schmied. Ruytenbeek drew two assists, while Schmied, Shawn Courtney, Jeffrey Phillips and Calverley got one apiece. Michael Haverlock backed his mates between the pipes, and Courtney was aided behind the bench by assistant Darryl Rice and trainer Carl Serazin. The coach added they were missing the services of Joel Dipucchio and Damian Sprawny, who were out with injuries. |
