Minor peewee reps down 2-1 against Aurora The NobleKing minor peewee rep Knights fought back to earn their first victory in their OMHA playoff round with Aurora over the weekend. Goalies Alex Marchese and Stephen Sartor have shared responsibilities in this series. As the home team in the opening match, the Knights fell 5-3 in a lopsided contest in King City. The Knights were down 4-1 with just over two minutes to go before fighting back with two more goals late in the game. In the second match, the Knights never got on the scoreboard, falling 3-0. Then in the third game, facing elimination plus a two-goal deficit after 79 seconds, these 11-year olds played one of their best games in recent history to earn a 4-3 victory. Head Coach Jim Younker made some line up changes to recover from the early setback. Travis Brinovec scored two goals in the first contest with two assists by Stefano Alonzi and one from Daniel Kovacs, followed by the late unassisted marker from Steven Peressini. In the third game, Alonzi opened the scoring on an assist by Dylan FitzGibbon. Then Zachary Schofield scored on a nice feed from Peressini. Schofield then returned the favour to Peressini for the team's third goal, with an assist also going to JR Venchiarutti. FitzGibbon scored the winning goal with Alonzi and Andrew Begg assisting. FitzGibbon almost scored a fifth on the Tigers' empty net, but was denied by the goal post as he approached from the left wing. The defensive players on this team include Thomas Beretta, Andrew Begg, CJ Sifton, Jesse Schneider, Matthew Chung and Braydon Jackson. They have played well all season to help the team finish one place higher than last year in the regular season standings. Several AP players have also helped the team this year including, but not limited to, Marcus Sjolin who has enjoyed some significant playoff duties, regular Daniel Kovacs, Patrick Egan and Owen Wright. The entire team including forwards Ryan Lankester, FitzGibbon, Alonzi, Schofield, Peressini, Aaron Kimber, Luca Germinario, Brinovec and Venchiarutti have to help their team win two more games to earn the six points needed to advance to the next round of the playoffs. The fourth game was to be Tuesday night in Nobleton when a tie or a Knights' victory would extend the series to Aurora Wednesday (results of Tuesday's match were not known at press time). |
