Horticulture "Today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope."(the wisdom of China) I'm happy to be back writing for Nobleton King City Horticultural Society. Many thanks to Hans Nielsen for his kind words and his excellent reporting over the past few years. Hans you will be missed. Come 2008 (next year) the society will celebrate 50 years of service to the community. Already this year the new show book is well in hand and will be available to members at the March meeting. Once again we will have a top-notch speaker for each meeting. Please note that the 2007 Garden Tour will take place in mid-July rather than the end of June. We are looking for gardens in the Nobleton area to include on this tour. If anyone would like to have their garden as part of this event, please contact Maria Pedersen at (905) 833-2146. During the winter, many houseplants, especially those that flower, go dormant and need only a minimum of water every 10 to 12 days. Don't fertilize dormant plants. As well, stressed plants, which could include those newly brought into the home or from one light area to a darker area or brighter room, or plants that have just been repotted or ones that have wilted from lack of water, have no use for fertilizer. Yellowing and\or droopy leaves are the first signs of stress. Nobleton Women's Institute Nobleton Women's Institute is hosting the York Centre District Women's Institutes' Luncheon and Euchre. The place is at Nobleton Community Hall at 19 Old King Rd. on Feb. 27. The time is noon sharp. The price is $12 each. There will be door prizes, draw prizes for grocery baskets and euchre prizes. Call Mary Anne at (905) 859-0709 for tickets. We are looking forward to seeing all our euchre players there. A great lunch is served so if you don't play euchre, come out and have lunch. The Women's Institute needs new members to keep a great organization viable. In 2008, the Women's Institute will be celebrating their 100th anniversary.
