Mayor gets committee to defer York Region staff are ready to support the proposed Laurier Homes (27) development in Schomberg, but the Township is going to get to address it first. A recommendation of support was on the agenda last Wednesday of the planning and economic development committee of Regional council, but it was deferred at the request of Mayor Margaret Black, who sits on the committee. She said she wanted Township council to address it first, and she hoped that would happen at the Jan. 29 meeting. The committee will meet again Feb. 7, and the next Regional council meeting is scheduled for Feb. 22. The staff recommendation was to tell the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) that the Region supports the amendment to King's Official Plan sought by Laurier. But there was a stipulation that if an environmental assessment on the water supply system to serve Schomberg is not finished by May, the Region should ask OMB to withhold draft approval of the plan until it's complete. Laurier elected to take the issue to OMB because the municipality did not deal with the matter within the prescribed time. The Regional staff report said the hearing is slated to start in May 1. The development is slated for approximately 56 acres at the southwest corner of Highways 9 and 27 in Schomberg. The latest proposal calls for 56 semi-detached units, 30 townhouses and 143 detached homes, along with park land, open space and a storm water management facility. |
