Be aware of laws for off-road vehicles
      York Regional Police are reminding residents about laws governing the operation of off-road vehicles. The use of these vehicles is a lot more common during the summer, and police said they have been responding to numerous calls about them being driven on the roadway, sidewalks and private property.

Speeding motorcycle stopped in King
      A 34-year-old Brampton man was charged early Friday morning for making a very fast trip down Highway 400 on a motorcycle. South Simcoe Police reported a traffic officer was southbound in the area of Innisfil Beach Road shortly after midnight Friday when the officer noticed a motorcycle, also southbound, travelling at an extremely high rate of speed.

Plenty of opposition voiced to waste treatment facility in East Gwillimbury
      A site in East Gwillimbury is still in the running to host the proposed residual waste facility that will be shared by York and Durham Regions, and there is lots of opposition from the prospective neighbours. Several of them made their feelings known last week at a public consultation meeting, hosted by York officials.

Lake Simcoe Act will not affect approved developments
      Premier Dalton McGuinty surprised many at the Lake Simcoe Summit July 6, dropping by to make the announcement that he intends to push through the Lake Simcoe Act once the legislature resumes in the fall. "I am concerned with the natural legacy we are bequeathing to our children," the Premier said.

      A Progressive Conservative government would commit itself to investing $12 million over two years in support of efforts to clean up Lake Simcoe. Party leader John Tory made the announcement, to the delight of accompanying supporters, when he appeared in Barrie last Wednesday.

Region to implement initiatives to identify and remove barriers
      York Region launched National Access Awareness Week last Monday with the release of Towards Accessibility: York's 2007 Accessibility Plan. It is a comprehensive plan of actions the Region will take to identify, remove and avoid barriers for people with disabilities in Regional programs, services, facilities, by-laws, policies and procedures.

Government provides funding aimed at making York safer
      Vaughan - King - Aurora MPP Greg Sorbara has announced provincial funding of $26,165.71 for York Regional Police, helping to fulfil the McGuinty government's commitment to make Ontario communities safer. "We're giving police the tools and resources they need to protect Ontarians from the danger on our roads," said Sorbara.
