King Township sculptor Brett Davis (second from left) was on hand for the ceremonial ringing of the bell he created for the Buxton National Historic Site, commemorating that community's role in helping black people escape slavery in the days before the American Civil War. The bell was rung last Wednesday at Queen's Park as part of the observances of Black History Month. More...

It does need some work, but there are no plans on the part of King Township to get rid of Nobleton Community Hall, or convert it to a storage area or to change its uses in any way. In fact, there are efforts under way to get a heritage designation for the building. More...

Fire was not among the great dishes available Friday night at the annual Caribbean Party at All Saints' Anglican Church in King City. This Tropicano Fire Eater was part of the entertainment for the evening. Turn to page 2 for more Caribbean scenes. More...

Proposed tax increases are too high, some ditches in King City are too deep, more work needs to be done in other areas and there were dire warnings of a possible tanking of the American economy. The newly renovated King Township municipal offices in King City are looking somewhat more attractive these days, thanks to displays of the creations of numerous local artists. Many of them were out last Monday for a reception, hosted by Art Society King (ASK) and the Township's parks, recreation and culture department. Works by Andrea Loeppky, Nancy Jones, Ken MacFarlane, Diane Styrmo, Evangeline Munns, Marianne Broome, Garry Conway and Joan Owen can currently be seen in the lobby, and opportunities will be provided to other artists, on a rotating basis, to exhibit their work in this space. The art may be purchased by contacting the artists directly. Garry Conway spliced together three separate photographs to assemble this scene taken from the 15th Sideroad, looking north to the seneca college property. More...

Their play was somewhat better than the final score would indicate, but things were decisive in the end. The local heroes of junior C hockey fell 8-4 to the Alliston Hornets, giving the Hornets victory in the bestof seven play-off series four straight. More...
