Horticulture Submitted by Hans Nielsen "Granny's come to our house; and ho! My lawsydaisy! All the children round the place; Is is a-runnin crazy!" (James Whitcomb Riley) At the annual general meeting and awards dinner in the Nobleton and King City Horticultural Society, an election of the board members for 2007 was held. District 15 Director Brenda Heenan conducted the election and declared the following as members of the board. President — Kate Agosta; Past-president — Blair Day; First Vice-president — Barb Downey; Second Vice-president — Lynda Rogers; Treasurer— Jules Maude-Ffinch; Directors for one year — John Arnott, Maude Featherstone, Jill Gellatly, Jean Keane and Sandra Kirby; Directors for two years — Kathy Ball, Roz Elson, Carol Field, Maria Pedersen and Tina Stone; Auditors — Joan Jackaman and Nola Stacy. No Secretary has been appointed as yet. The outgoing and the incoming board members will have a joint meeting at President Kate Agosta's home Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. (pot-luck lunch and Christmas cheer). The board will also be discussing plans for 2007 and setting up committees to carry them out. Membership Director Tina Stone reported that the society presently has 73 members, but that a membership drive is on the way for the new year. Volunteer Hour Director Maude Featherstone appealed to all members to report their volunteer hours if they had not already. It is important for the society to report as many hours as it can to the OHA by year end. This will also be the last report that I, Hans Nielsen, will be writing for the Horticultural Society. After five years doing the weekly column, I will be retiring. I’d like to thank all my readers, both gardeners and non-gardeners, who at various times complimented me for my work. Also, thank you to the two weekly papers and their editors for allowing me to be part of their paper. They have been most graceful. It was something that I enjoyed immensely. John Arnott will be the next correspondent for the society. He did this before with much success and was my mentor when I started. The Nobleton and King City Horticultural Society wishes to all friends and fellow green thumbs a very Merry Christmas and a happy and peaceful New Year.
