RT/Viva to offer complimentary transit for New Year’s Eve riders People celebrating New Year's Eve are encouraged to leave their cars at home and take public transit. York Region will once again be offering complimentary transit on YRT/Viva services beginning at 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve and running until early New Year’s Day. "New Year's Eve is a holiday that should be celebrated safely with family and friends," said York Regional Chair Bill Fisch. "YRT/Viva is proud to be offering complimentary service to our customers, helping to guarantee their safe travels to and from celebrations.” The complimentary New Year's Eve service is available on all YRT/Viva and TTC routes operating north of Steeles Avenue, starting at 7 p.m. Dec. 31. Late evening service will be available on select routes until approximately 3 a.m. Complimentary fares also apply to YRT’s Mobility Plus services. "York Region is providing residents with a convenient, affordable and most importantly, safe way to travel on New Year’s Eve,” said York Regional Police Chief Armand La Barge. "I encourage people to take advantage of this initiative and leave the driving to YRT/Viva this New Year’s Eve, especially if alcohol is being consumed." YRT/Viva will be operating on a regular Sunday service schedule New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. |
