Two more losses for the Cougars
They hosted the Alliston Hornets Saturday night, but in the words of Head coach Gary Waldrum, “We really didn’t come to play.” The Cougars were doing a good job in keeping up to Penetang until late in the third period, when their guests started to pull away. The final score was 5-2, but the match was really a lot closer than the score indicated. The shots on goals were a close 36-35 for the Kings. Thomas Faris and Chris Case did the scoring for the local heroes, while Mike Shuryn and Matt Steenhoek contributed assists Case later said they had trouble with their defensive coverage, especially in the late going, which accounted for at least two goals. Despite the loss, both Case and Faris agreed things were looking up. “We’re only making minor mistakes now,” Faris said. “As long as we’re improving and not getting worse.” “I think it’s another step forward,” Waldrum commented. “I don’t think the score totally reflects how close the game was.” But it was a different story Saturday, as the cougars bowed to Alliston 7-1. Mitch Ronan bagged the Cougar marker late in the first period, when things were still close, assisted by Dan Naccarato and Mike Digirolamo. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie, but the Hornets connected three times in the second and three again in the third to put the game away. “We didn’t compete and had no discipline,” Waldrum commented, adding his men were not happy with their performance. The guys are hoping to put their troubles behind them for tomorrow’s match, when they host the Stayner Siskins. The match is to start at 8:15 p.m. Friday will see them travelling to Penetang for an 8 p.m. rematch with the Kings. |
