Police hosting Holidays in the Village The staff of the Community Safety Village, in partnership with York Regional Police, invites all residents to the village for the second annual Holidays in the Village celebration this Monday (Dec. 11) between 6 and 9 p.m. The Community Safety Village of York Region is decorated for the festive season and hot chocolate and treats will be available as people walk through the winter wonderland, bright with holiday lights. The sound of music will fill the air as local choirs sing carols through the night. Children will have the opportunity to make their own festive crafts and should keep their eyes open for a visit from Santa Claus himself. Representatives of many of the region's diverse communities will be in attendance to share their cultural celebrations with children and adults through decoration, costumes, choirs and samples of culturally-traditional food that reflect and celebrate their individuality. Members of the York Regional Police Community Services Bureau will answer questions related to winter safety, winter driving and tobogganing safety. Members of the police recruiting bureau will also be on hand to provide information to anyone interested in a career in policing. The fire educator at the Community Safety Village will be available to provide a demonstration to children and parents in Sparky's apartment, to educate them on decorating safely for the holidays to avoid incidents of accidental fire. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. Donations to the York Regional Police Toys for Tots Program are always appreciated. The Community Safety Village is at Bruce's Mill Conservation Area at 3291 Stouffville Rd. (between Warden Avenue and Kennedy Road). For more information, contact Karen Richards at (905) 927-1919 ext. 21. For information on the village, visit the Web site at www.yrp.ca and click on Community Safety Village. |
