Nobleton Lions November and December

report

The Nobleton Lions Club was busy in November with the annual clothing drive, which was held Nov. 4, with all collected items going to the Salvation Army, which was very grateful for the donations.

Upcoming community events in December include the annual skating party, which will be held at Nobleton arena Dec. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m., with free skating for all, and Santa will be visiting to see the children. Hope to see you there.

The Lions Club is seeking new members at this time. If you are interested in helping your community become a better place to live while having lots of fun, please call Greg Hill at (905) 859-0895.

The Ontario Horticultural Association (OHA) has more than 40,000 members in 274 societies across the province.

Ontario is divided into 19 Districts. The Nobleton and King City Horticultural Society belongs to District 15, together with the societies from Richmond Hill, Schomberg, Thornhill, Woodbridge, Bolton, Brampton, Chinguacousy, Cloverleaf, Credit Valley, Streetsville, Etobicoke, Parkdale and Toronto, Roselands, Swansea and Westway. The District 15 Director is Brenda Heenan of Bolton. She has three assistant directors; Carole Spragget for Peel, Wendy Gay for Metro Toronto West and Mary Sasiela for York West, where Nobleton/King belongs.

OHA celebrated its 100th anniversary this year at the annual convention held in Ottawa Aug. 11to 13. At the convention, a new slate of executives were elected for year 2006-'07. The very capable and energetic former District 15 director, Liisa Wolfgram was elected president of OHA.

Congratulations go to Liise from her friends in the Nobleton/King Society.

The OHA Convention for 2007 will be held in Owen Sound with District 8 as hosts, and the 2008 Convention will be in Brampton with District 15 as hosts.

The District 15 annual general meeting for 2007 will be held at Strate's Banquet Hall, 3656 Evans Ave. in late April, and more details will follow.

The AGM for 2008 in District 15 will be held in Nobleton, to coincide with the Nobleton/King Society's 50th anniversary that year.

The Nobleton and King City Horticultural Society is to hold its annual general meeting and awards dinner Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. It is to be a pot-luck dinner, so make your favourite dish and bring it along with your spouse or special guest. Much socializing is to be had at this, our last meeting of the year.

Note, a good stocking stuffer for Christmas is a membership card for the Horticultural Society. Please call Tina at (905) 833-0707 for membership.
