Wetlands important for bird migration
I read with appreciation your report, of Nov. 15, about King Township council's enacting of a bylaw which will be instrumental in creating wetlands between Nobleton's new sanitary sewer system and the Humber River.

The Humber River watershed, especially the areas around Nobleton, such as Humber Trails Conservation Area, Cold Creek Forest and Wildlife

Area, and the West Humber River conservation lands are favourite areas, for me and many others, to spend time birdwatching. The river valley land and forests are excellent places for the spring bird migration, in particular.

For the past few years I have always included these areas in my places to spot birds in The Baillie Bird-athon, a fund-raiser for Bird Studies Canada. Wetlands are prime bird habitat and with wetlands disappearing everywhere, it is heartening to see King and York Region doing something that could reverse the trend.

As Nobleton is technically outside the Oak Ridges Moraine, it is crucial that our council keeps taking steps like this to help mitigate urban sprawl's impact on our natural environment.

Barry Wallace,

King City
