Arrest comes after bank robbery in Nobleton York Regional Police are crediting great work by officers working in uniform at 1 and 4 District Headquarters, as well as those in the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and investigators working in the Hold-Up Unit, for arresting a man Thursday in connection with a robbery at a bank Nobleton. Police said the suspect entered the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce branch on Highway 27 at about 12:15 p.m.. He approached a teller and demanded money. The victim complied and the suspect fled to a vehicle. Witnesses were able to obtain a description of the vehicle that was broadcast to responding officers. The suspect was spotted in the vehicle by an astute officer patrolling southbound on Highway 400. The officer followed the suspect as he exited at Finch Avenue and pulled into a gas station where he was taken into custody with the assistance of the ERU, without incident. All of the stolen money was recovered. David Ian Wood, 42, of no fixed address, was charged with robbery and using a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence. Police advise the public that if they should find themselves the victim of a robbery, be sure to cooperate with suspects and get the best description possible. Do not fight back. Report suspicious people and vehicles to police, and they will respond to these calls. Also remember to check and maintain surveillance video equipment and replace tapes often. They don't last forever.
