Youth invited learn truth about tobacco industry York Region's Youth Action Alliance Program (YAA), York (YEL!T), Youth Exposing Lies !n Tobacco are inviting their peers to get together and learn the truth about the tobacco industry Friday night. They are invited to learn how the tobacco industry targets youth and encourages tobacco use through movies, television, music and print media. This event also gives participants an opportunity to socialize with their friends. Activities will include bowling, pool and darts and dancing. A special component of this evening event is the Tobacco Hall of Shame, an interactive demonstration illustrating how the tobacco industry has evolved over the years. Free pizza and public transportation to and from the event will be provided. It will be at Baldwin Rock & Bowl, 23721 Highway 48 (at Ravenshoe Road, one mile north of Mount Albert) in Baldwin. It will run from 7 until 11 p.m. Tickets are $10 each and are available in advance or at the door. York YEL!T aims to prevent and reduce smoking in youth by directly engaging them as key participants in the development and execution of area campaigns. Youth Action Alliances, funded by Smoke-Free Ontario, are meant to be the cornerstone of community-based youth tobacco control programs in Ontario. |
