Cougars drop another one to Alliston
By Bill Rea

The final score may not have inspired a lot of optimism, but there might be a few promising signs coming out of the Schomberg Cougars' camp.

The local junior C hockey club lost their 10th match of the current

campaign Thursday night, being doubled 8-4 by the Alliston Hornets, who are presently in first place in the standings of the Georgian Mid-Ontario division of the Ontario Hockey Association.

Head coach Gary Waldrum said he saw a few positive signs in the match that might soon start paying off.

Thursday saw the return of Blake Elliott to the lineup. He's been nursing injuries for most of the season. As well, Eddie Wiederer has returned to the ranks, and Waldrum had them on a line with Patrick Homersham, and they played well together.

Joe Digirolamo collected two of the Schomberg goals in this outing, with Dave Munshaw and Jason McMann putting in singles. Jamie Alton and Mike Digirolamo each earned an assist over the evening.

"We gave up too many goals, which we have to work on," Waldrum said. "But it looks like the offence is going to start coming along."

The Cougars continue to occupy the seventh and last place in the standings with four points, one back of the Midland Flyers. But they will have a great chance to break out of the cellar this week, as they face the Flyers in a home-and-home series. Things will start in Schomberg tomorrow (Thursday) night, starting at 8:15 p.m. the next game will be an afternoon contest in Midland Sunday. The puck will drop at 230 p.m.
