Carjacking attempted in Pottageville The York Regional Police Hold Up Unit is seeking public assistance in identifying and apprehending two suspects responsible for a carjacking in King last Tuesday. Police said a 40-year-old woman returned to her home on Cook Drive in Pottageville at about 6:15 p.m. She got out of her vehicle to open the garage door when another vehicle, containing two people, pulled in behind her. The man who was driving first asked her for directions, and then demanded her vehicle. The victim started screaming and hitting the man, as a female suspect also approached. The victim's action attracted the attention of a neighbour who came to her aid. The two suspects fled, heading west on Cook Drive in a 1996 or '97 two-door white, Pontiac Sunfire with dents all over it. A witness obtained a partial licence plate number, that may have ended in 949. The suspect driver is described male, white, 50 years of age with a slim build and grey hair. He was wearing a scruffy grey sweatshirt and blue jeans. There is no description of the female suspect. The victim suffered minor injuries during this incident. Police remind drivers of the following: Remember everything you can about the offender including their description and clothing. If you are victimized in this way and a family member or pet is still in the vehicle, tell the carjacker that there is someone else in the vehicle and reassure the carjacker they can have the car. In many cases the carjackers will comply with your request. Remember it is the vehicle the carjackers really want. Pay attention to your surroundings. If you see a suspicious person or vehicle, do not go to your vehicle. Instead walk to a safe place and call police or drive directly to a police station. Always have your keys or remote ready to unlock you vehicle. Don't spend time fumbling for them. Always drive with your doors locked and windows up. Do not leave keys in the ignition or your vehicle running.
