Beware what you read or hear before Monday

Baring unforeseen complications, next week's edition of the Sentinel should contain results of the municipal election in King.

The last week of such a campaign is important. Many of you have already made up your minds on how you are going to vote, but others among you are still trying to decide.

We direct this piece to those of you who are still undecided.

How you cast your vote is important, and not having made up your minds at this stage is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, it shows you are taking a certain amount of care, which is admirable. But it also means that you might be vulnerable to misleading or inaccurate information. And if such information is going to surface at all, it's going to be in the next couple of days.

There's a reason for that. The two local community newspapers serving King Township publish their last editions before the election today (Wednesday). That means the best opportunity to use the local press to rebut false charges will be lost. That's good news for people making the accusations. The reason they haven't made them sooner is because they fear to have them aired while there's time for rebuttal, because they know them to be false.

So beware of what you find in your mail or tucked into your door over the next couple of days. The more weighty the accusation, the greater the likelihood that it's garbage.

With modern technology, we have the Internet. It doesn't take a lot these days to set up a Web site which appears to be objective and non-political, and then insert some propaganda.

Beware of that too.

Our message is clear. Think carefully about the options facing you, then get

out and vote. If you can't be bothered doing that, then don't bother complaining about the type of municipal government you have for the next four years.
