Fallen remembered in Kettleby
There was a large crowd out Sunday for the annual Remembrance service at the Cenotaph at Kettleby Cemetery.
Rev. Don Bell of York Pines United Church, spoke of being witnesses, pointing out the Greek translation of "witness" is from where the word "martyr" is derived.
"A martyr is one who witnesses," he stated, "a witness who seeks to be obedient to a truth, a belief, a call to duty."
He added seeking such truths can lead to death, and that goes on to this day. Bell also said these witnesses see the
chaotic, terrible, glorious freedom of human life, and while humanity can produce those who work for peace, there are also those who would seek to destroy whatever gets in their way.
Bell also issued a warning not to take freedom lightly, because evil treads everywhere.
He also called on people to consider what drives them in their daily lives , as they work for their truths, beliefs and duties.
"We cannot let the martyrs we honour today die in vain," he said.
