By Angie Maccarone (905) 859-5174

Nobleton United Church

Please join us this Saturday (Oct. 28) at Nobleton United Church for our annual bazaar from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Along with baking, sewing, quilts, preserves, candy, books and a Christmas table, we also have a Treasures Table. Here we offer new or lightly used items that are "true" treasures. We will have pieces of china, ornaments, pictures and frames, wooden knickknacks, vases, glassware, and other assorted goodies.

If you have any items that you wish to donate to our Treasures Table, please have them at the Church Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. so that we may price them.

All proceeds from our bazaar go directly to the Church. See you then!

Horticulture

Submitted by Hans Nielsen

"I am not young enough to know everything." (Oscar Wilde, 1854-1900).

The Nobleton and King City Horticultural Society recently held its fall board meeting at President Kate Agosta's home.

Several items were discussed and plans were put in place to carry them out. It was decided to hold the 2007 edition of the Garden Tour July 15 and hope that the many events planned throughout the community in the summer can be combined with this event.

It was reported that the special projects undertaken by the Society were flourishing well. In Nobleton, Cherry Park was being upgraded. In King City, the Four Corners had been replanted after the construction on the bridges was finish. The hosta garden in front of the arena looks very good and healthy, with no slugs. Gardeners who are thinking of planting a hosta garden should take a look at the display of several varieties planted in this project. The flowerbeds in Wellesley Park are welcoming visitors driving along King Road and the Lilac Garden has also received an upgrade and the lilacs look happy in the park. Maybe we can add to it next year?

The plant sale held recently in King City, in connection with the Lions auction sale, yielded a modest income for the members who persevered. The Society would like to thank the Lions for letting us share the day and thank you to the Senior's Centre for letting us use the patio for the sale.

The Society will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2008 and it was decided to ask our sister society in Schomberg to be our co-host for the annual meeting in District 15 in the spring at that time. District 15 covers 17 societies in the northwest Toronto area and about 225 delegates can be expected to attend.

The society's annual meeting and awards dinner is planned for Nov. 27. It is a potluck and starts at 6 p.m. Plan to attend.

St. Mary's Catholic Church

Bishop's visit

This Sunday (Oct. 29), Bishop Peter Hundt will be visiting St. Mary's church at the 9:45 Mass. After Mass, there will be a small function with refreshments and food to be served to all parishioners who will stay to greet Bishop Hundt.

Everyone is welcome to attend.
